Help us celebrate the winter season by participating in Withrow’s Holiday Spirit Week from Dec. 14-17.
We are pleased to announce that there will be a Withrow Primary Food Drive!
We will be collecting starting on Monday, November 29th until Wednesday, December 15th. All items will be donated to our local food banks.
We have created a list of specific items that food banks desperately need. These items have been divided up among classes and we are asking that each class collect the 3 items they have been assigned. Our goal is to be able to provide a balanced number of essential items and this system eliminates much of the sorting and unpacking that volunteers at the food bank have to do.
Room 230 is collecting: Nut butters (sealed), jams, unfrigerated milk alternatives (e.g. soy, oat, etc).
We appreciate all donations to the drive! Thank you for all of your support!
Today we had the opportunity to watch a virtual Anti-bullying magic show performed by Brent and Sarah. We heard many great messages about believing in ourselves and asking for help.
Check out Brent and Sarah’s Magic Trick Tips site. Don’t forget to ask your parents permission!
We are excited to let you know that we will be holding an online Scholastic Book Fair, starting on Monday, November 22nd. It will run until December 2. Students may have noticed that posters went up yesterday around the school.
Purchasing items through the book fair will generate funds for the school to use to purchase books from Scholastic as well.
All the items purchased will be shipped to the school, ready for pick up by the students. Parents can also contact Mme Denis directly, if they wish to arrange to pick up the books themselves.
Progress Reports will be send home next Wednesday, November 17th. They will be sent home digitally.
I will be hosting virtual parent-teacher conferences on the evening of Thursday, November 18th on the morning of Friday, November 19th. Each meeting will be 10-15 minutes in length. I will be creating a schedule to accommodate all families.
An email was sent out today to all families with a survey, asking for your availability. My goal is to provide all families a 10-15 minute interview within their 1st or 2nd choice.
Confirmation will be sent home on Friday, Nov. 12 with a link to next week’s Zoom conference.
As I mentioned at Curriculum Night, grade 3 students will be participating in the TDSB’s Universal Screening Process. All grade 3 students will take the Canadian Cognitive Abilities Test, a standardized group test of ability. The results of this test will be used by school personnel to gain a better understanding of your child’s learning strengths and needs, and to provide educators with key information for differentiating instruction to improve student achievement.
The grade 3 students in our class will be completing the assessment in our classroom next week. The tests will be completed in 3 sessions. We will be preparing and testing first thing in the morning on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
It will be essential that all students arrive on time for school those days, as the assessments are completed online in a group session.
Students are invited to wear a Hallowe’en costume to school on Friday, Oct. 28th. It is optional.
Those who wish to wear a costume must arrive at school already wearing their costume. Students will not be able to change at school. If students choose to wear their costume, please ensure that:
Remember: someone’s culture is not a costume
Photo Day will be held Tues. Oct. 19th.
Photographers will be wearing PPE at all times and follow all Covid safety protocols. We will have only one class at a time coming down by their teacher while physically distancing. When being photographed, students will be distanced from the photographer and standing on a foot printed mat instead of being seated.
Retakes are scheduled for Thurs. Nov. 18th.
Withrow is currently undergoing a reorganization. As a result, Curriculum Night has been rescheduled to Oct. 19 (tentative date).
We realize this is last minute and we apologize for the inconvenience.
